Happy October!! Every October I must visit Netherworld and I honestly thought that this year I would have to miss out. After debating with myself, researching and seeing that Netherworld had a preview night, I double masked myself and prepared to go on my adventure.
If you have never visited Netherworld, it is easily the best haunted house in the South if not in the country. There are two haunted houses, the main attraction and smaller but equally themed house. Each year the themes change and they add more to make the houses even more terrifying. With what seems like endless twist and turns, you are walking through two haunted houses for almost 1 hour. Netherworld also has two additional attractions on site Escape the NetherWorld and Netherworld Laser Adventure.
To take precautions, this year Netherworld is using time slots to minimize the time in line and have marked the queues with tape to maintain social distancing. You have a 30 minute window to enter the line once your reserve time starts. The earliest time slot is 7:00pm and you will have until 7:30pm to get in to the line.
Before entering the line contactless temperature screening is taken for all guest and there are multiple hand sanitizing stations along the queue. There’s signage posted informing guest that mask are mandatory and to social distance from those around you. All staffed are masked and have their temperature taken too.
I selected the 7:00pm time and was happy to see all of the extra precautions and because it was a preview night there were very few people in attendance. The perk of the extra precautions is the spacing of guests. Unlike haunted houses most years, where you are funnel through and packed in, this year they wait 3 minutes before letting the next group enter into the house. They also ask that you maintain social distancing while walking through the house. As a party of two this made the house much more terrorizing because the scare actors had plenty of time to setup to scare us.
About half way through the house we noticed we were being followed by a scare actor, I truly thought I was seeing things. After exiting the the house we found out that this was done because the group in front of us was moving slow and the group behind us was moving too fast. If the scare actors notices that a group is moving too slow or fast through the house, to maintain the distancing, an actor would enter to guide the group through the house.
Another perk of all the extra precautions is that there is no second line for the second haunted house. You enter it directly after leaving the first. This helps move people through and helps to maintain the social distancing.
If you do decide to visit Netherworld, please be safe. We did select an early time slot while it was still light outside, most like to go when it is dark but I would highly recommend going doing an early time slot due to the limited interaction with others.
